How a Group Leader Can Command Respect in a Diverse Group

Introduction

In order to work in a group, a group therapist need to be continuously monitor and have awareness of their strengths and weakness and how these affect the group members. According to Haley-Bañez, Brown and Molina, a group worker’s race, ethnicity gender, culture and even sexual orientation can impact a group process and the group dynamics (1998). In this paper, I seek to explore the best approach that can be used in a scenario where a group leader is a black woman not getting respect from her group particularly the women in the group consisting of 4 white women and 4 white men and how the group leader can go about having respect from this group and also keep the groups on line during sessions.
